Revit for Quantity Surveyors

Course Description

Revit stands as the principal software used in Building Information Modeling (BIM) across a broad spectrum of professionals in the construction and design industry. This includes architects, landscape architects, structural engineers, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) engineers, contractors, and facilities managers. It's a key tool for these professionals, serving as a hub for collaborative work and design processes.

This innovative software provides an interactive platform that enables users to collectively design a building's structure and its components in a three-dimensional format. Its capabilities extend beyond just 3D modeling; it also allows for the integration of two-dimensional drafting elements to annotate and provide further details to the model. This seamless blending of dimensions ensures that the design is comprehensive and contains all relevant information for successful project execution.

Revit is not merely a design tool; it also serves as an information resource. Users can access a wealth of building information from the model, permitting further analysis and exploration of various design elements. This data-rich environment fosters a deeper understanding of the project, leading to better decision-making and, ultimately, better buildings.

The course is designed to equip Quantity Surveyors with the essential skills and knowledge required to effectively utilize Revit, a Building Information Modeling (BIM) software, in their professional practice and is tailored to cater to the workflow of Quantity Surveyors working across various engineering disciplines, including architectural, structural, and MEP.

By the end of this course, participants will have acquired the necessary skills to effectively utilize Revit for project analysis, cost extraction, and BIM collaboration as Quantity Surveyors. They will be equipped to contribute meaningfully to BIM projects and enhance their professional capabilities in the construction industry.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Project Analysis: Understand how to analyze project files received in Revit and adapt them to suit the requirements of Quantity Surveyors. Learn techniques for effective project analysis and data extraction.

Cost Extraction: Gain proficiency in extracting costs through schedules and material takeoff functionalities within Revit. Learn how to accurately estimate project costs using BIM data and how to optimize your workflow by using iTwo CostX and BIM Integration Techniques.

BIM Process Understanding: Develop a comprehensive understanding of the BIM process and its significance in the construction industry. Explore how Quantity Surveyors can leverage BIM to streamline their workflow and enhance project efficiency.

Impact on BEP: Learn about the role of Quantity Surveyors in the BIM Execution Plan (BEP) and how their involvement can contribute to project success. Identify strategies for aligning QS practices with BIM processes to optimize project outcomes.
