Microsoft Power BI

Course Description

Power BI for Construction Professionals is a specialized workshop tailored for professionals in the built asset environment who seek to enhance decision-making through data. This hands-on course empowers participants to interpret, analyze, and visualize complex construction data using Microsoft Power BI—transforming raw data into actionable insights that drive project success.

This workshop focuses on leveraging Power BI's robust features to integrate data from commonly used construction sources, such as Bills of Quantities (BOQs), contractor records, and cost trackers. With Power Query, participants will learn how to clean and transform datasets to ensure data accuracy and consistency, setting the foundation for effective analysis.

Once the data is prepared, attendees will explore the full visualization potential of Power BI by designing interactive dashboards that monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cost per square meter, return on investment (ROI), and delay percentages. Participants will also discover how to use DAX to generate project-specific metrics and learn how to present data insights in a way that enhances transparency and supports project stakeholders.

By the end of this course, construction professionals will be equipped with practical knowledge to implement Power BI tools in real project settings—elevating their approach to cost monitoring, performance evaluation, and team collaboration.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course, participants will be able to acquire:

An understanding of data analysis within the construction industry context
The ability to connect Power BI to construction project files (e.g., BOQs, cost trackers)
Proficiency in cleaning and merging project data using Power Query
Skills to build visualizations and dashboards tailored to project KPIs
Knowledge of DAX for calculating key construction metrics
Techniques for sharing dynamic reports with project teams for better decision-making
