Located on Muharraq Island – in close proximity to Manama city, Bahrain International Airport was originally established in 1927, making it the oldest international airport in the Persian Gulf.

The airport has recently undergone an upgrade and expansion boosting its capacity to accommodate a 60% increase in passengers (from 8.5 million to 13.5 million passengers per year).

DG Jones and Partners provided the cost management consultancy at the pre-contract stage of this expansion. It included the construction of a new 200,000m² Terminal Building featuring premium-class check-in halls and lounges, check-in desks, passport control booths, E-gates, 24 departure gates, security lanes, and a 9,000m2 duty-free retail space, and food and beverage zones. It also includes a 15,000m² Viaduct structure and a separate 9,000m² Central Utilities Complex, a 4,500m² Emergency Response Station, a 1,500m² Super Gate, and 200,000m² of Multi-storey Car Parks(7,000 new parking spaces), and both air- and land-side infrastructure works.
