Bahrain International Airport

Situated on Muharraq Island, which lies in close proximity to the capital city of Manama, Bahrain International Airport holds the distinguished title of being the oldest international airport in the Persian Gulf region, with its initial establishment dating back to 1927. This historic airport has recently undergone a significant upgrade and expansion project, aimed at enhancing its capabilities and services to meet the increasing demands of air travel. This ambitious project was designed to substantially increase the airport's capacity, enabling it to handle a 60% surge in passenger traffic, raising its annual passenger capacity from 8.5 million to an impressive 13.5 million passengers.

DG Jones and Partners were entrusted with the responsibility of providing cost management consultancy services during the pre-contract stage of this expansive project. The scope of the expansion included the construction of a new Terminal Building, sprawling over an area of 200,000 square meters. This state-of-the-art terminal is designed to elevate the passenger experience, featuring premium-class check-in halls, exclusive lounges, an ample number of check-in desks, passport control booths equipped with E-gates, 24 departure gates, efficient security lanes, and a sprawling 9,000 square meter area dedicated to duty-free retail shopping, along with diverse food and beverage zones.

In addition to the terminal building, the expansion project encompassed the construction of a 15,000 square meter Viaduct structure and a separate Central Utilities Complex covering 9,000 square meters. Other vital components of the project included a 4,500 square meter Emergency Response Station designed to enhance the airport's safety and response capabilities, a 1,500 square meter Super Gate to streamline the flow of traffic and goods, and an expansive Multi-storey Car Park area of 200,000 square meters, providing 7,000 new parking spaces to accommodate the increased volume of vehicles. The project also involved comprehensive air- and land-side infrastructure works, all aimed at ensuring that Bahrain International Airport continues to serve as a key hub for international travel in the region, equipped with modern facilities and enhanced capacity to welcome visitors from around the world.
