Aligning with Saudi Vision 2030's focus on sustainability and citizen well-being, Al Urubah Park marks a significant milestone in Riyadh's transformation. As the project’s cost consultant, DG Jones & Partners is proud to be part of this groundbreaking initiative.
This 75-hectare green-blue infrastructure, strategically located within Riyadh's urban grid, represents a paradigm shift in urban planning for extreme climates. It prioritizes citizen well-being and fosters climate resilience while offering a vibrant community space.
Inspired by the concept that "open societies need open spaces," Al Urubah Park serves as a true urban oasis. The existing natural network forms the framework for extensive green spaces, providing a vital tool to combat climate change. Over 10,000 trees and winding pathways crafted from local soil create a sense of organic flow, reflecting the natural beauty of the region.
The centerpiece of the park is a 2.7-kilometer Garden Boulevard, acting as a social hub. This "living membrane" features rooftop promenades offering panoramic views, restaurants, and amenities accessible from both the park's inner and outer areas. The inner park itself caters to diverse interests with leisure and educational attractions, including an urban beach, a sports esplanade, a green amphitheater, a music stage, and four themed gardens.
As Jens Hoffman, COO of LAND, noted in a LinkedIn post, "Al Urubah Park has been officially launched by the Royal Commission of Riyadh City today! We at LAND are immensely proud to be part of this great endeavor. A people's park that will be a major milestone in the transformation of Riyadh by 'reconnecting people with nature.'" LAND, as the designer, played a crucial role in shaping the park's green boulevard, adding a unique touch to the urban landscape.
Al Urubah Park seamlessly integrates technology into the natural landscape. Visitors can engage with a multitude of augmented reality devices, enriching their experience and fostering a deeper connection with nature, art, culture, and local traditions. This digital landscape serves not just as entertainment but also as a tool for environmental awareness.
Embodying the principles of sustainable development, Al Urubah Park sets a new benchmark for innovative urban design. A future-proof water management system positions the park as a global model for resilience. This extensive green-blue infrastructure acts as a stormwater detention basin, capable of holding 475,000 cubic meters of rainwater, significantly mitigating flooding risks in the area. The entire project, designed entirely using BIM (Building Information Modeling), ensures efficient resource management and construction practices.
