BIM Authoring with Revit - Intermediate

Course Description

The Revit Intermediate: Model Inconsistency Handling & Quantity Assurance course is a practical, workflow-driven training program designed for architects, engineers, and cost professionals who need to work with real-world BIM models under pressure.

This course focuses on how Autodesk Revit is actually used in live projects to produce reliable quantities and defensible BOQs, especially when models are incomplete, inconsistent, late, or delivered without a clear BIM Execution Plan (BEP).

Rather than teaching isolated commands, the program emphasizes structured BIM workflows, model organization, data validation, and cost-focused coordination. Participants will learn how to assess model readiness, diagnose quantity risks, intervene safely in problematic families, and validate outputs using auditable processes aligned with project and contractual requirements.

At D.G. Jones and Partners, we combine technical BIM expertise with practical cost and delivery experience to ensure participants gain actionable skills they can immediately apply on real projects.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Assess BIM model reliability for quantity extraction
Manage and diagnose parameters, schedules, and data structures
Identify and resolve model inconsistencies affecting BOQs
Apply controlled interventions to improve family schedulability
Validate quantities using traceable, defensible workflows
Coordinate cost-related issues using Revit, Navisworks, and ACC
Support BEP development with cost and QS-focused requirements

VENUE

The training will take VILT (Virtual instructor led training) via Microsoft Teams & for those that wish to attend in person at the DGJ Academy Training Lab at our offices in Lebanon

Topics

BIM Reality for Cost Teams (Mindset & Accountability)
What BIM can and cannot guarantee for BOQs, responsibility boundaries, and escalation logic

Model Triage & Cost Readiness Assessment (30-Minute Method)
Rapid health checks, red flags, and reliability thresholds by BOQ package.

Parameters & Schedules as Diagnostic Tools
Detecting inconsistencies, type vs instance implications, filtering strategies, and outlier checks.

Families for Cost Reliability – Diagnosis
Why families fail, schedulability rules, nested family pitfalls, and fix / flag / escalate decision-making.

Families for Cost Reliability – Controlled Repair
Adding shared parameters, linking to geometry (length, area, volume, count), and safe reload protocols.

BOQ Validation: Model vs Written Documents
Mapping BOQ items to model logic, identifying scope gaps, discrepancy logging, and defensible assumptions.

Navisworks & ACC for Cost Coordination
Aggregation, version comparison, BOQ-aligned selection sets, and ACC issue workflows with evidence.

BEP Inputs, Automation & Adoption Playbook
QS-focused BEP addendum, Dynamo QA checks, AI tool boundaries, and final decision tree: Fix / Flag / Reject / Escalate.
